Convertible Tops F.A.Q.
Q. We have a Mazda Miata convertible top and the vinyl under the rear glass window has starting to come undone. Can it be repaired or do we need to replace the entire window?
A. For your problem, the fix is inexpensive, and yes it can be repaired! But, don’t wait too long to come and see us. By waiting too long, you may need to replace the entire window assembly.
Q. Our car was broken into last week and the convertible top was sliced open. What can we expect the insurance company to do for us?
A.If you have a comprehensive policy, the insurance company will pay to replace your convertible top, less your deductible. However a convertible top is viewed as a wear item, therefor, the older the top is, the less it is worth(prorated). If your automobile is almost new, you can expect nearly the full cost of replacement, less your deductible, to be paid. If your car is nine or ten years old, your insurance won’t cover much of the cost as that the top is considered to be past it’s useful life.
Q. Can I expect my insurance company to cover the cost of the broken glass in the convertible top?
A. If you have a policy that is zero deductible for glass coverage, your insurance may pay the full cost of replacement! You should check your policy or call your agent to see how much this will cost you.
Q. Our Ford Mustang had a small hole in the convertible top, which is now a huge hole! Can’t we just fix it with duct tape?
A. Yes, but it’s only going to get worse. Besides, you will have a much more attractive car with the proper service.
Q. What is the reasonable life span of a convertible top? How long will mine last?
A. It really depends on what make and model of the automobile in question. Also the vinyl or fabric used in the construction of the top. For most cars in Arizona, you can expect a life span of about 6 years.
Q. Is there anything I can do to make my convertible top last longer?
A. Absolutely! The most important thing is to limit the amount of time in direct sunlight. The sun in Tucson and Phoenix is brutal! The more time your car spends in a garage, carport or even under a shade tree, the longer life span your top will have.
Secondly, try to limit the amount of use of your top. In several of the newer cars, it is possible to open or close them in 7 or 8 seconds. This is very convenient, but can lead to over use. Try to open and close the top only when necessary.
Finally, regular cleaning of your top will help with the life span of your top, and will improve the appearance as well! Try to avoid solvents and harsh cleaners, a rinse with soap free water is really all it needs. Make sure to thoroughly dry the surface after rinsing.
Q.We have a Mazda Miata and the rear window is made of clear vinyl. Is it possible to replace it with a darker, tinted window?
A. Absolutely! Your convertible top must be in a condition well enough for repair however. The color and shade options are light green, charcoal, smoke and limousine tint. This would apply to any convertibles which have a vinyl rear window: BMW 3 series and Z3 models, Mercedes Benz, Porsche Boxter and Honda S2000.
Q. What do you think is the most difficult part about replacing a convertible top?
A. The most common challenge our customers’ experience is being without their vehicle for that day . Most of our customers arrange a ride with family or friends. Some may make use of taxi cabs, but rental car service at our corporate rates is an option and often the best value.
Q. What is the time required to replace my convertible top, how long will I need to arrange for transportation?
A. Usually, we can have it done in only a day. Of course there are some vehicles which may take a bit longer. In either case, we will let you know before the start of your work how long you can expect the job will take to complete.
Automotive Upholstery F.A.Q.
Q. The Driver’s seat on my Mercedes 450SL has hole worn it from getting in and out. Is it possible to repair this, and match the existing leather?
A. Absolutely, yes we can! We repair automobile upholstery, matching German leathers and vinyls is no problem. We can match other European automobile upholstery including Porsche, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar and Volvo!
Q. We have an old Land Rover Discovery, and the headliner is falling down! What kind of glue can I use to fix that? Is that even possible?
A. Unfortunately, there is no such adhesive that will accomplish this. Most attempts will only make matters worse. It is best to replace the headliner. Fortunately,it is not expensive to replace most headliners, and usually can be done in one day!
Q. We are so satisfied with the upholstery work done on our Mercedes! Do you guys offer the same service for a couch and chair that I have?
A.Uh, No. We actually get asked this question often, and the answer is always no. Although the two processes may seem almost identical, the skills required for both are quite different. We are honored to be considered for this, the fact that we achieve such a high level of customer satisfaction is due to the fact that we only do what we do best!
